Ed and a Cuban dog
Ed took a week off to travel to Havana with his wife Vicky for their 30th wedding anniversary. They did some humanitarian work and spent their off hours meeting interesting characters at every turn, including this dog.
Cars in Havana
Ed says walking around Havana is like wandering around a fifties movie set. There are cars like this chugging down every street.
Souvenir from Cuba
Overcoming his wife's protests, Ed bought this amazing 1930s Cuban Coca-Cola sign on the street for a song (not Guantanamera). We're going to hang it in the Serious Eats office somehow.
Ed, strike a pose
We took headshots this week for our upcoming website redesign. Here's a outtake from Ed's photo session. What a natural.
"Making Stuff with Oreos" Time
Oreo Week gave us an excuse to make a lot of things out of Oreos. Here's Carey in the SE-kitchen-turned-Oreo-workshop. Check out some of the results in our roundup of 14 things to make with Oreos.
Erin tried some Oreo-enhanced yogurt.
Max was in charge of torching the marshmallows for the S'mOreos. He's a marshmallow-torching pro.
Pizza (toy) delivery!
Rainbow cookie tasting
We gathered in our mini stairwell for a rainbow cookie tasting. Nice way to end the day.
Intern Will was on ginger juicing duty for Drinks research.
YUBA IS HERE
Yuba in the office = smiles all around! Leandra gives some love to Yuba.
What about Hambone?
Hambone didn't want Yuba getting all of the attention, of course.
Oh, those eyes.
Another Yuba stare
Robyn must be holding something edible. Surefire way to get this focused Hambone stare.
Hambone and Yuba playtime
Let the playtime BEGIN.
Yuba: "I'm going to eat your face, ok?"
Hambone: "Nooo I'm not ok with that."
Yuba: "I WIN."
Bottled iced tea tasting
We tasted 11 brands of bottled iced tea. A lot of very sweet, bottled iced tea. Some of us didn't feel so great afterward.
What were all these ingredients for? Oh, you know, this...
Giant bowl of oatmeal
This giant bowl of oatmeal turned into 18 sweet and savory oatmeal variations.
Erin, Carey, Niki, and Max happily tasted the oatmeals. At least, until the 18th sample came out, at which point everyone felt bloaty.
Tired as a dog
Jamón and Yuba used to spend all day snoozing around indoors. Now that they have a balcony at Kenji's apartment, all that's changed: They snooze around outdoors instead.
"I'm bug-eyed, I'm feeling a little high from the heat, but I'm cool with it. Totally relaxed."
Chichi, tucking into a crispy pig's tail on Kenji's balcony after a long day of some serious grilling for upcoming recipes.
Hungry Hungry Hambone
"Can I have some tail, please?" those eyes seem to say. Also pictured: tri-tip, grilled tongue, skirt steak, grilled short rib, radishes, and...yes, ramps.
