Meet and Eat: Molly Goldman, Serious Eats Intern

Guilty pleasures? Oh man, why is this the first question? Actually, I don't feel a lot of guilt about most of my food habits. One thing I'm not particularly proud of is that I really enjoy grilled cheese made with Kraft singles. Also my former roommate and I used to make Funfetti cake for no occasion and eat huge slices of it for breakfast.
Describe your perfect meal. There's lots of perfect meals out there. Ideally there'd be a runny egg yolk, an opportunity for hot sauce, and it would be consumed between two slices of bread.
What food won't you eat? I hate milk because it reminds me of bad breath, and I'm averse to yogurt. I don't like that it's simultaneously creamy and tangy, and I'm really turned off by the idea of consuming "live active cultures."
Favorite food person? Really love Deb Perelman. She can do no wrong. However, I'm surprised by how much I miss Sam Sifton. He had some one-liner gems.
When did you first realize you were a serious eater? I guess I realize it every time I meet someone who's not a serious eater. For example, people who say they forgot to eat all day. I just can't understand forgetting something like that.
What do your family and friends think of your food obsessions? I think either they're equally obsessed or they're amused by it. It's a harmless obsession, really, so they let me carry on.
Favorite food sites or blogs? I love Smitten Kitchen and 101 Cookbooks, and Grub Street. There aren't a ton of food sites that I check regularly, but every once in a while I go on a thorough hunt if I'm looking for something specific.
Everyone has a go-to person they call for restaurant recommendations. Who's yours? I'm open to all suggestions all the time! I usually go to my friend Helen who works for Danny Meyer and knows everything about eating in New York. I love to hear where my friends and family have been eating and I ask everyone all the time.
What is your favorite meal of the day and where do you get it? Lunch is prime time for me, and on a good day I'm having a beer and a sandwich from Bierkraft.
Do you ever cook? What's the best dish you make? I live in Alabama most of the year so I have to cook a lot if I don't want to end up eating biscuits and fried catfish for every meal. I mean I want to, but, restraint! Also I like to cook because I love leftovers. I make a really delicious turkey meatloaf. That loaf is a good time.
