On Saturday, May 5, Wesleyan University in Connecticut held Foodstock, a food conference dedicated to cooks and books. The all-day extravaganza, free and open to the public, featured some of the food world's best and brightest writers as well as local food bloggers, cookbook authors, and chefs.
Of the many speakers, some highlights included such food world luminaries as Ruth Reichl, Eric Asimov, Faith Middleton, Dorie Greenspan, Molly O'Neill, and Jane Stern. A number of Serious Eats contributors spoke as well, including recipe columnist Chichi Wang (The Nasty Bits, Chichi's Chinese) and former SE interns Tressa Eaton and Will Levitt (both Wesleyan graduates as well!). Topics ranged from the Jewish love affair with Chinese food to academic food writing, cookbook crafting and food sustainability.
In addition to the many talks and panels throughout the day, there was a food truck lunch, farmers' market, local vendors and much more! Video and audio recordings of the day's events will be available soon via Foodstock's website.
About the author: SE intern alumnus Will Levitt is a senior at Wesleyan University. He blogs about college, cooking and his love of sandwiches - among other things - at his blog Dorm Room Dinner. You can follow him @dormroomdinner. He's also the dude who made these hot dogs.
