We're getting pumped for the Sweetlife Food + Music Festival on April 28 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. The Shins, Avicii, Kid Cudi, Fun., Explosions in the Sky, and many other bands will be there. We've been helping the Sweetlife folks curate the food selection and it's going to be mighty tasty. Over the next couple of weeks we'll show you just how tasty with more menu details—and in each post, you'll have the chance to win tickets!
Today we'll tell you about some of our D.C. friends who are heading to the festival: the José Andrés's Pepe Truck, Toki Underground, and the Big Cheese truck.
Did you realize that Spanish superstar chef José Andrés had a food truck? You'll find it parked at Dupont Circle, Tenleytown, and elsewhere around D.C.—just check the @pepefoodtruck for location updates. It'll be parked at the Sweetlife Festival making Butifarra burgers (Spanish pork burgers with aioli and brava sauce), Pollo Grito (fried chicken wth lettuce, piparra peppers, alioli and brava sauce), and Spanish grilled cheese (Manchego, Murcia, Valdeon, Membrillio and fresh goat cheese).
Speaking of grilled cheese, you'll also find the Big Cheese Truck (just look for the smiley Grilled Cheese Man) serving them too with various local cheeses, along with a hot tomato soup and chilled gazpacho.
And what about bahn-mi-style hot dogs, you ask? There comes a point at every music festival where you've listened to so much music, and just need one. You're in luck—Toki Underground, the popular ramen spot and bar in the burgeoning Atlas District of D.C., will be selling Pho Dogs made with beef kosher dogs stewed in pho broth and topped with bahn mi slaw, fresh cilantro, Thai basil, hoisin and Sriracha. Toki will also serve Tofu Pho Dogs made with grilled, locally-sourced tofu.
It's time for another ticket giveaway! To enter to win a pair of tickets to the Sweetlife Festival: just tell us the last song you listened to (or are currently listening to..)
Winners will be selected at random. This contest will close on Monday, April 16 at 5 p.m. The standard Serious Eats contest rules apply.
