Fish sandwich tasting
Fish sandwich tasting

SE editors Erin, Carey, and Kenji tried the sandwiches in Will Gordon's fast-food fried fish sandwich taste-off. Popeye's was our winner, followed by McDonald's.

As always, Hambone wanted in on the taste test.

And so he waits

But sandwiches, he did not receive. Sorry, dude.

A visit from Bravetart
A visit from Bravetart

While Sweets contributor Stella Parks (aka Bravetart) was in New York City to visit Food & Wine for being one of their best new pastry chefs of the year, she found time to pop by SEHQ and say hi. ...And give editor Robyn a gift. Robyn first sniffed the jar with her eyes closed...

HAGELSLAG!!

...And then opened her eyes to see a wee jar filled with homemade hagelslag, aka Dutch chocolate sprinkles! Robyn shall treasure the sprinkles forever. Or until she eats them all. Probably the latter.

It's always a tender moment with Hambone.

Ramen for lunch
Ramen for lunch

Since Kenji had leftover broth from his tonkotsu broth recipe testing, he brought the extra broth along with ramen ingredients to the office. Ramen for everyone!

It was the first time Kenji made ramen in the office, but it'll hopefully happen again. And again. Maybe every month. Are you listening, Kenji?

Buckethead
Buckethead

Why is Kenji wearing a KFC bucket on his head and doing the chicken dance? Because...

Still wearing that bucket

...he's making no-cook sauces for take-out fried chicken! (Admittedly, that doesn't really explain why he's wearing the bucket and dancing. Here's the real reason: He lost a bet to Serious Eats community member Nicholas Byrd, that's why! That's right—Kenji accidentally ate a bite of ice cream during Vegan Month, thereby losing this bet.)

Drinks editor Maggie got a chance to meet this cow, Cinnamon, at Mecox Bay Dairy on Long Island. Because it's always a good idea to do a little cheese tasting in between your wine tastings.

What do you do with leftover pork belly? In Kenji's case, make pork buns. Here he's putting the final char-y touches on the belly slices with a torch.

Yup, that torch is getting the job done.
