Weekend Cook and Tell Round Up: Cabbage Patch
For last week's St. Patrick's Day-centric Weekend Cook and Tell we asked all of you to take a good look at that Irish go-to ingredient, the cabbage. We were looking for something a bit more inspired than a corned beef go-with; we were in search of real cabbage creativity. Here's a peek at some of our favorite new ideas in cabbage cookery.
meatballs&milkshakes recreated this Tagliatelle with Cabbage, Shrimp, and Pecorino, a dish from a favorite New York restaurant. It's the only time meatballs&milkshakes will make an exception to the no cheese on seafood pasta rule.
mangotomato's cabbagiest recipes come by way of Russia. Check out her Golubtsi (that's stuffed cabbage to the rest of us), Crescent Rolls with Bacon, Cabbage, and Onions, and Cabbage Soup kicked up with Arbol chiles.
For dbcurrie Homemade Sauerkraut is the be all end all of cabbage recipes, especially when you use it to make Sauerkraut Pierogis. Or if sauerkraut isn't your thing, check out db's recipe for Braised Cabbage with Mushrooms and Tomatoes.
We have to thank nmallory for expanding our cabbage horizons with a suggestion for slicing a head of cabbage into wedges, wrapping them in foil with a little butter, and throwing them on the grill. That one is going on our list of must-grills.
We'd like to extend a big thank you to everyone who shared their cabbage concoctions for this week's Weekend Cook and Tell challenge. Be sure to head over to Talk and read about next week's challenge: An Ode to the Dutch Oven.
