In this great nation of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around the country. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

Cali Baguette Express is more sub shop than typical bahn mi joint, offering 16 banh mi options—everything from Cajun shrimp to turkey pesto, rotisserie chicken, and even tuna. The usual suspects, like pork loaf with pate, are also available, but I always go for the BBQ pork banh mi ($3). And yes, just $3.

Sandwiches are made with freshly baked baguettes still warm from the oven, filled with tender and slightly sweet cubes of BBQ pork, daikon, carrot, a strip of cucumber, cilantro, and jalapeño. The bread is light, crisped up on the outside with a fluffy crumb. It's spread with a buttery, slightly tangy mayo that quickly melts, adding a bit more moisture. You can eat the banh mi exactly as served, or squirt on some Sriracha for more heat.
