Note from the team: The Serious Eats editors have had a few chances to eat their way through San Antonio in the last year. Most recently, drinks editor Maggie Hoffman visited San Antonio for the first-annual San Antonio Cocktail Conference, thanks to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau. (Carey Jones stopped by earlier for a few days of taco-eating. You know, like we do.)
San Antonio feels a little like Disneyland, with its enchanted River Walk draped in lights and lined with restaurants. But it's worth getting off the main strip, too, and checking out the eats all over the city, from the Pearl Brewery area to South WW White Road, to the double drive thru of the Original Donut Shop. There are stellar tortillas and authentic Mexican seafood, comforting Tex-Mex platters, chicken-fried steak, and tender barbecue.
