Since he provided his own chocolate cake from his birthday lunch at Del Posto, we decided to make him birthday cocktails, and instead of candles, umbrellas! A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Serious Eats overlord Ed! (There's Aperol, rum, King's Ginger, and Jeni's cherry lambic sorbet in that cocktail. Sweet and umbrella worthy, just the way Ed likes it.)

1) Hambone had to go through a bit of surgery this weekend. He was complaining about how droopy his eyes looked, so Kenji decided to give him a facelift as an early Valentine's day gift.

2) Just kidding. Truth is, the excess skin on his eyelids was causing him eye problems. He's out of a successful surgery and should be back to his normal self soon, brighter-eyed than ever.
