No, this isn't a list of the newest cereals. Or even really the best. Let's call it the most memorable cereals of 2011. I figured since we're approaching New Year's and we've got all sorts of lists happening, I'd have a go at it. Please chime in with your favorites from this year.

5. Crunchy Nut O's

Although the U.S. version of the Original Crunchy Nut fell a bit flat, the "O's" version quickly became the most popular cereal in the office. Crunchy and substantial with just enough sweetness to feel like a treat, it's a dry cereal snacker's dream. Something about those little aerated O's made the box just disappear. Read more here »

4. Japanese Coffee Milk Cereal

I ask again, why aren't there more coffee-inclined cereals out there? I have a pretty strong feeling that sweet milky coffee lovers (stand proud) are usually cereal lovers too.

Though this cereal didn't quite create the coffee milk I was hoping for, it had other admirable qualities that more than made up for it. This sweet crispy cereal made me wish it was available in stores nationwide. Read more here »

3. Waffle Crisp

Far superior than its rival Eggo Cereal (in my humble opinion), this super sweet cereal only came across my desk recently. Though many at SEHQ were grossed out by its fake maple flavor and overly sugary crunch, I embraced this unique cereal.

2. Count Chocula

This past October, I had my first brush with the Count after many, many years. Maybe it's his crunchy, perfectly chocolate-y pieces. Maybe it's his unique and delicious chocolate marshmallows. Or maybe it's the fact that it's only available for six weeks of the year.

All I know is, in a world saturated with chocolate cereals, Count Chocula shines like a limited-time-only beacon in a cocoa sea. Until next October, Count, I'll be waiting for you. Read more here »

1. Mini Cinnamon Churros

I feel just the littlest bit guilty writing this. After all, I did write a public love letter to Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and claimed over and over how it truly is the greatest "sugary" cereal in existence. And I stand by that claim.

But if there is one important lesson I've learned this year it's this: cereal love does not divide, it multiplies. And there is room in this sweet world for two sugary, cinnamony cereals. Mini Cinnamon Churros are big and bold, with an awesome cinnamon hit and enough crunch to put the Cap'n to shame. What a cereal. Read more here »

Hope everyone's 2011 has been filled with as many great cereal moments as mine has! Looking forward to seeing what the bright and delicious world of cereal has for us in 2012. Any reviews you'd like to see here in the new year?
