Weekend Cook and Tell Round Up: Stone Fruit Fest
For this week's edition of our Weekend Cook and Tell we asked all of you to hit the local farmers' market in search of the best seasonal stone fruit. For a challenge we dubbed Stone Fruit Fest we wanted to see what all of you do with these juicy seasonal gems. After reading through your responses all we can say is that we'll be over for dessert sometime very soon. Here's a peek at some of your loveliest stone fruit-centric recipes.
Instead of stocking up on bulk toilet paper at the local big box store, KarmaFreeCooking opted for cases of peaches and cherries. She baked her haul into this Peach Cherry Crisp topped with rolled oats and pecans.
Blueberries and yellow plums were piled into zahavah's Blueberry Plum Galette, a freeform summer tart. Her secret from keeping the filling from being too runny is a sprinkle of almond meal over the fruit before baking.
Between all of that bread-baking and this Rustic Stone Fruit Pie getting the feeling that dbcurrie's never gets a break. Her latest Weekend Cook and Tell contribution is a peachy combination of pluots, apricots, and peaches in a cane sugar crust with a bit of almond extract.
While kakugori's first love are ripe peaches eaten right from the hand, a Peach Caramel Cream Pie topped with whipped cream is in order once kakugori has had plenty of the raw ones.
misplacedtexan is another fan of stone fruits right out of the bowl but an exception is made for a passed down peach cobbler that's "so good that it's worth turning the oven on."
limecake went both sweet and savory routes for this week's challenge. On the savory end of things we've got Grilled Brie with Peach Preserves and Black Pepper (sign us up!) and for sweets Cherry Chocolate Chip Muffins.
