A Sandwich A Day: Pork Loin at Manny's Tortas in Minneapolis

Thin slices of pork loin sizzle on a flat top as the cook at Manny's Tortas douses the meat with seasoning salt. The pork loin torta ($7.45) is available at both locations of the popular Minneapolis takeout restaurant, which offers ten tortas total, from steak to Hawaiian.

The cook then smears avocado on one half of a baguette and adds lettuce, tomatoes, and pickled jalapenos, then gives a generous squirt of chipotle mayo. In one bite, you'll taste the seasoned pork, the salty bacon, the refried beans, the creamy avocado, the pickled jalapenos and the spicy mayo. The torta is unapologetically spicy. Then you have the vinegar punch from the pickled jalapenos and the super-thin pork slices cooked through. With all those delicious layers, how could this not be a perfect sandwich?

The bag of potato chips is free, but I don't even open the bag. I'd rather devour the rest of the torta.
