Weekend Cook and Tell Round Up: What's on your Nutrition Plate?

For last week's Weekend Cook and Tell challenge we asked all of you to share your takes on the newly released My Plate, the USDA's latest infographic intended to assist us in making healthy food choices. We wanted to see what all of you thought about this new model and how it translated onto your dinner plates. It was a fun challenge that gave us some insight into all of your everyday eating routines. Let's take a look at some of our most memorable Nutrition Plates.

Lest anyone be scared off by the word nutrition, Pavlov got the ball rolling with a steady diet of Ring Dings and Black Russians, served up with a sprig of parsley, of course.

And meatntaters followed suit with a weekend recap beginning with a breakfast of black coffee, mimosas, heavy on the Champage enjoyed with open-faced bacon sandwiches on sourdough with Miracle Whip chased with a handful of vitamins. The rest of the day included Mexican and Margaritas. We're hoping that the USDA will heed meatntaters' model and include tasty mixed drinks in their next incarnation of the the plate.

Rounding up the Nutrition Plate opposers is redfish who boldly admits to eating just animal flesh and starches and nothing else. Bold indeed.

On the polar opposite of the plate (or glass as the case may be) Trilby reported in from the 10th day of a juice fast. What was on the men? Juice and water and more juice!

Heading up the healthy set is Amandarama who doesn't think that the Nutrition Plate is any better than the Food Pyramid. Sticking with the four food groups model Amandarama likes to avoid the processed stuff in favor of lots of vegetables, lean proteins like roasted chicken or seafood and brown rice or quinoa.

Many of the same foods pop up on julea's plate over and over again which isn't necessarily a bad thing when they're good for you items like low fat Greek yogurt, lots of fruits and veggies, oatmeal, and cottage cheese.

Thanks to everyone who shared their daily dining routines and plate fractions for this week's Weekend Cook and Tell challenge! Be sure to head over to Talk and read about next week's challenge: Cookbook Keepers.
