Weekend Giveaway: 'My Father's Daughter'

20110413-147222-weekend-giveaway-my-fathers-daughter.jpgEven before it hit shelves on Wednesday, there was a lot of buzz about Gwyneth Paltrow's new cookbook, My Father's Daughter. I mean, come on, of course we all want to know about how and what glamorous movie stars eat at home—and Paltrow has certainly made herself out to be something of a foodie. She's gone road tripping around Spain with Mario Batali and Mark Bittman for PBS's Spain...on the Road Again and devotes a portion of her lifestyle blog, GOOP, to all things culinary. But the real question here is whether she's capable of putting together a worthwhile cookbook, one that's a workable asset to your cookbook collection.

In short, the answer is yes. Celebrity aside, My Father's Daughter is filled with really wonderful recipes—healthy, for the most part, but largely accessible, everyday food that most of us would be more than happy to enjoy. She's gone heavy on the veggies and sustainable seafood, perhaps a concept gleaned from her buddy Bittman?

There are, of course, plenty of asides that let you know that Paltrow lives a life that's a bit out of the ordinary—for example, her decision not to eat factory farmed pork and beef was inspired by her good friend Leonardo DiCaprio and she really does think that a $60 bottle of olive oil is a savvy investment.

But all in all, My Father's Daughter is a solid cookbook complete with clear recipes illustrated with lovely photos, and plenty of dishes that are just as healthful as they are delicious.
