We recently plowed through GOB and spotted some fancy-looking packets from the Better Oats brand, which won the Apple Cinnamon division, sent to us from San Diego SE'r Erin Jackson. The flavors were: Blueberry Muffin and Lavish Dark Chocolate. Hello microwave, how soon we meet again.
Blueberry Muffin: Technically, the title is "mmm...Muffins." Muffin oatmeal? Do we want the two at the same time? It had almost a stovetop texture of slow-cooked rolled oats, plus flaxseeds and dehydrated blueberries. The sweet, buttery bites did have a muffin flavor happening. As someone at Better Oats once said, "Everyone loves waking up to a hot, fresh muffin for breakfast." We'd eat this again, but only if we were craving dessert more than breakfast.
Lavish Dark Chocolate: Having tried variations of chocolate in my morning oats, I was excited to see the words "Real Chocolate Morsels" highlighted on this brown packet. However, of the two, this proved Better Oats' weakest link. The chocolate permeated the entire bowl, camouflaging the flaxseeds, and left the chalky, powdery taste of instant hot cocoa. This wasn't terrible, but it just wasn't "lavish" as advertised. We'd probably rather just eat a chocolate bar.
Any other interesting oatmeal flavors out there we should know about?
