Do You Have a Favorite Storebought Spicy Soup?
With the last gasp of winter upon us, why not take comfort in a bowl of spicy soup until spring comes. These five soups have more than a burst of chile-inducing heat in common. They are all so flavorful and fresh-tasting, it's hard to believe they originated from a box, can, or plastic tub. Do you have any favorites?
Rosa Mexicano Aztec Tortilla Soup: This velvety blend of robust chicken broth also includes roasted garlic, spices and earthy pasilla chiles. It's a nice base for a traditional tortilla soup. Just add cooked chicken pieces, sliced avocado, cilantro sprigs and top with crumbled tortilla chips.
Pacific Spicy Black Bean Soup: This silky puréed black bean soup is infused with spices for just the right kick of building heat. For an added pizazz, mix in roasted green chiles and top with sour cream and cheese.
Annie Chun Korean Kimchi Soup Bowl: This is the easiest one to transport to work. Stock up on them at your desk, then just throw it in the microwave for a minute. To bulk up this soup flavored with tart kimchi and slurp-worthy thick noodles, add bean sprouts, tofu or chicken slices.
Crystal Noodle Soup Spicy Tofu: Topped with tofu and spiced with the addition of red chile oil, this fills the mouth with hot tingling all around. Save this soup for a day when sinuses need a little clearing up.
Cookwell & Company Green Chile Stew: Vine-ripened tomatillos and Hatch chiles combine in this stew, which requires a meat addition like chicken, turkey or pork. And don't think this only has to be eaten as a soup; use it as a sauce for fish or for soaking enchiladas.
