Imagine my surprise when I ordered this sandwich only to see that it was upstaged by its side of glorious, transparent spiraled potato chips! Or so I thought.
When I lifted the sandwich, its heft made me realize why the pretzel roll was only a few inches in diameter. The ham and red meck sandwich from Glenora Wine Cellars prides itself in presenting good (really good!) things in small (really small!) packages.
The charm of pairing local grape varietals in the Finger Lakes with local cheeses was not lost on me. I was drawn to the addition of red meck cheese, a Gouda/Muenster-like varietal local to the Finger Lakes, to the typically quotidian ham and cheese sandwich. With piles of thinly shaved, fresh ham, the aforementioned red meck, and abundantly piled fresh lettuce and tomatoes, it's not easy wrapping your teeth around this one.
