Pink peppercorns are deceiving little things. They're not actually peppercorns but, in fact, dried berries cultivated in Madagascar. To me, these faux peppercorns have a delicate floral taste with a spark of pepperiness.

I had the vision to transform sugar cookies with a lift from the pink peppercorns. Not only do they meld nicely with the sweet cookie but, cut into heart shapes, these cookies are a great homemade gift for a spicy-loving sweetie.

Take your favorite sugar cookie recipe like this one or use a packaged one in a pinch.

While rolling the dough out, sprinkle with 1 1/2 tablespoons ground or chopped pink peppercorns over the dough. Gently roll the rolling pin back over the dough, so the pink peppercorns are incorporated into it. Using a heart-shape cookie cutter (or another shape), cut into shapes and bake.
