Meet Our New Columnists and Columns

Over the last few months you may have noticed new names and columns popping up on the site. Daily sandwich coverage, bread-baking recipes, dispatches from Germany, and more. Here is a brief introduction to the new columns and columnists we've added to the SE orbit. Say hello and check out what they have to say!

Serious Eats National

Serious Sweets: Maria del Mar Sacasa shares weekly dessert recipes, from hot and spicy chocolate to apple cakes. Behind her girly facade lurks a truck driver's appetite.

Sauced: Longtime grilling columnist Josh Bousel (don't worry he's keeping that column too!) is exploring the world of condiments. For his kick-off post, he makes ketchup from scratch.

Bread Baking: Donna, who you may know around these parts as dbcurrie, shares a weekly recipe,from a rye loaf to sourdough waffles.

Snapshots from Germany: Based in Berlin, Steen Bjørn Hanssen spotlights favorite traditional German cuisine. Mmm, did someone say döner kebabs?

Cooking with Kids: Cookbook author Paula Disbrowe rolls up her sleeves with her two adorable sous chefs, Flannery and Wyatt, to prepare kid-friendly recipes that are safe for small hands.

Sandwich a Day: A different sandwich EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR from this great land of ours, written by our roving squad of sandwich-eating reporters.

Serious Entertaining: How to throw a themed party with all the details you need the snacks to the DIY decor, written by Carrie Vasios.

Boston Hub Grub: Iconic dishes found in Boston-area restaurants from Liz Bomze.

Serious Cheese: Martin Johnson runs The Joy of Cheese, a series of informal cheese tastings that take place around NYC, and has worked in the cheese world for 27 years. He chimes in with cheese pairings, tips for cheese shoppers on a budget, and more.

Edible DIY: Jams, confections, and other foods to make at home and gift to friends, written by our longtime recipe contributor Lucy Baker.

Food Policy: Brown undergrad student Leah Douglas breaks down the hot-off-the-presses news in food policy.

Eat for Eight Bucks: Phoebe Lapine and Cara Eisenpress are the co-founders of Big Girls, Small Kitchen, a food and cooking website for twenty-something cooks looking for cheap and easy meals. But you don't have to be in your twenties to appreciate their weekly dinner recipes—they'll cost you under a tenspot and feed two!

Sunday Supper: Start the week with comforting, filling recipes from Sunday Brunch columnist Sydney Oland.

Homebrewing: Joe Postma brews some seriously delicious beer. You can too, if you read this column.

Sake School: Sake expert Monica Samuels teaches us all about everything to do with sake.

The Cider Press: Cider connoisseur Chris Lehault has been filling is in on cider, and will have lots of cider reviews and interviews to offer as well in The Cider Press.

Breakfast: Ashley Muir Bruhn writes about breakfast destinations (with beautiful morning-light photos!).

Food Artisans: Stephanie Klose introduces us to small-scale foodmakers all over NYC.

Date Night: Real-life couple Jess Allen and Garrett Ziegle take us all over the five boroughs for great date spots.

Flushing: Chris Hansen writes about the incredible Asian food in Flushing, Queens.

Kids Welcome: Aya Tanaka reviews restaurants from the parents' point of view, finding the best places to eat (well!) with kids in the city.

Good Bread: Andrew Coe introduces us to bakeries (and bakers).

The Vegetarian Option: Laura Togut finds the best meatless options on menu.

The Vegetarian Option, Cheap Eats: Howard Walfish does the cheap eats branch of the Vegetarian Option, hitting up small joints for great vegetarian eats.

Bar Eats: Nancy Huang visits bars and lounges to report back on what's worth eating on these menus.

Slice and A Hamburger Today

On AHT, we've got Nick Chen who's always looking for Philadelphia's best burger. Learn about Milwaukee's burger scene with Lacey Muszynski's biweekly reviews or try a taste of Atlanta's burgers with Todd Brock. Adam Lindsley steers us towards the best pizza and burgers in Seattle while Arkansas-based food and travel writer Kat Robinson, who focuses on reviewing burgers in Little Rock (she also chimes in on Alabama, Texas, and Tennessee.)
