The Wisconsin-based chocolatier Gail Ambrosius stopped by to feed us some of her single-origin chocolates (from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela). We were buzzing all day after trying a flight of truffles filled with all sorts of ganaches: Cinnamon/Cayenne, Cognac, Blueberry, Lemongrass /Ginger and Rose.
And a table covered with chocolate.
Cakelab's Mini Cupcakes
We've been in serious Thanksgiving mode, trying to find the best brands of gravy, cranberry sauce, frozen pumpkin pies, and all the other essentials. See those five bowls of blurbly brown goo? This is what gravy day looked like. Stay tuned for our tasting results!
Doughnuts in a Box
When we got a press release about Kane's Doughnuts based in Saugus, Massachusetts (just outside of Boston), having the best glazed doughnut in America, according to the October issue Travel + Leisure, we said, um, we'll be the judge of that. So they sent us a bunch! Not bad at all. Our favorite was the giant doughnut coffee cake. So giant, it needed its own box.
Erin Can Haz Giant Coffee Cake
What's the best way to hold a giant coffee cake? Coddle it like a baby.
What You See When You Walk Into Our Kitchen
Aw, Dumpling is sleeping after a rigorous day of...um...wait, did he do anything today?
Philadelphia's Metropolitan Bakery sent us a package of gourmet popcorn, along with one special treat for Dumpling.
Aaand He's Awake
Dumpling would never sleep in the midst of doggie treats. Ka-ruuuuunch.
This was the second of five pie tastings we'll be having over the next week at SEHQ. Here we were testing frozen pie crusts, both on their own and how they hold up to cherry filling.
