November Is Peanut Butter Lover's Month
The calendar is full of playful and peculiar food holidays. Did you know that there's a Butterscotch Pudding Day (September 19), a Peach Ice Cream Day (July 17), and even a Pigs-In-A-Blanket Day (April 24)?
And someone, somewhere decided that November was Peanut Butter Lover's Month.
Peanut butter is one of those foods that seems to strike a particular comfort food chord with most people. Yes, it's the food of most of our childhoods, but for some reason, it seems to resonate into our adult lives more than the Jell-O, mac and cheese, and baloney sandwiches that we also ate during our formative years. Maybe it's because peanut butter is so versatile and turns up in so many other foods. Or, perhaps it's the combination of salt and sweetness.
So why November? Maybe it's because of all the peanut butter candy we all just finished eating at Halloween. Or perhaps it's because of all the holiday baking we're about to do, and all the fun ways we can work peanut butter into festive cookies, candies, cakes, and pies.
If you're like me, you're probably already planning your holiday menus. This year, I'm committed to a savory peanut butter-flavored dish on my holiday table. I'm thinking about peanut butter stuffing (well, probably dressing, as I think I'll cook it separately from the turkey). I'm working on the recipe now and will share it soon. Any seasoning suggestions are always appreciated!
