Deep fried and battered Hershey's Kisses. They're encased in a biscuit-like dough and sprinkled with powdered sugar. The perfect combination of sweet and savory, and perfect for sharing. Tray of four for $4.
Deep Fried and Battered Hard Boiled Egg
This actually makes a good breakfast food to carry with you out on the midway. A hard boiled egg is battered with a cornmeal batter similar to that of a corn dog, then deep fried. For $2.50, one of the Fair's best deals.
Deep Fried Bacon Bombs
This about a brick's worth of cream cheese packed with an ample serving of bacon in a cornmeal batter, deep fried on a stick. The cream cheese somehow intensifies the bacon flavor. $4, or $3 if you don't want the bacon.
Likely the healthiest thing served by a vendor at the Arkansas State Fair this year, this is strips of smoked goat meat served up in a tortilla with tomato chunks and a choice of regular or spicy barbecue sauce for $7. The flavors of the meat shine through—no batter or deep frying here.
It's a hot dog on a stick, but rather than being battered like a corn dog it's inserted into a spiral cut potato, dropped into the deep fryer, and coated in either salt or a spice mix (Garlic Parmesan was our favorite) for $5.
Steak Hubcap Sandwich
A one-pound country fried hamburger steak on a custom made bun from local favorite Community Bakery. Comes with lettuce, tomato and whatever condiments you want. Tasty and very big for $7.95.
Chocolate Cream Cheese Bites
Balls of cream cheese wrapped around milk chocolate, dipped in a flour batter, and deep fried and sprinkled with sugar. A boat of six to eight is $5.
Beer Butt Chicken
Whole chickens roasted over coals on a beer can. Served with the beer can—no joke. $10 for the entire chicken.
Cheeseburger On A Stick
Sounds more exciting than it looks—ground beef and cheese packed into a tube, battered with cornmeal, and deep fried for $7. On the outside, indistinguishable from a corndog. Inside, a very juicy link of beef. Condiments served on the outside.
Giant Cream Puffs
Pastries big as a baby's head packed with Bavarian cream filling. They come chocolate covered if you wish for $4.
