A Hamburger Today
Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 141: Thank God For My Serious Diet
I really don't feel like weighing myself in public this morning. I really don't.
These last few weeks have been rough, what with finishing the book and all, and as a serious eater every week brings serious temptations. But I can't use that as an excuse. So I soldier on, at least as far as the scale, my beloved Thinner, and I climb on and I reveal my weight to all of you.
In sharing my weight struggles with the serious eaters in this column, I have learned so much from all the comments, even those that betray a certain skepticism about the whole process. Most of all, I have learned that I am not alone in my struggles, and that realization alone is worth, well, a ton.
So you know what? I'm going to get on Thinner and reveal my weight this morning, just as I've done every Friday morning for the last 141 weeks.
Why? Because this serious diet is the best thing that's ever happened to my body and to my health. Yes, even with all the twists and turns, all the temporary setbacks and triumphs, I have still managed to keep my weight down longer than I ever have before. So even though there are many Fridays where I would like to run from Thinner and this post, I'm sticking around as long as you guys will have me.
This morning I'm headed to Kansas City to eat barbecue and fried chicken, and yes, I know they are both extremely fattening,, but they are also two of my favorite foods, so somehow I will reconcile those two things as I have for much of the last 141 weeks. Because that's how I have rolled for the last 141 weeks, and I plan on rolling this way for a long time.
The weekend in Washington, D.C., and rural Virginia was rough, but no excuses. Here we go: 222. Same as last week. I'd like to get back to the negative column for next week, Kansas City be damned. But if I don't, you'll know as soon as I do. Why? Because it's worked. Long live my serious diet.
