Count Chocula
Count Chocula
The Count was always my favorite as a boy. Clearly I was ahead of this whole ascendant, vampire obsession that has taken hold.
Franken Berry
Franken Berry
Franken Berry was my older brother's favorite, but I could never abide strawberry milk.
Boo Berry
Boo Berry
The third member of the family is the blue-headed stepchild Boo Berry. He has the claim to being the first blueberry-flavored breakfast cereal.
The Showdown
The Showdown
The back of the box has a little comic strip showdown. I decided to do a showdown of my own!
Taste Test
Taste Test
I doled out a portion of each of the three varieties.
Milk
Milk
I added some 2% milk (IMHO the perfect choice for cereal) and let that cereal do its magic. That is to say, I let the bowls stand for a few minutes to let the milk be infused with the cereal flavors.
Shapes
Shapes
While milk infusion was taking place, I investigated the various shapes up close. The cereal is ghost-shaped and the marshmallows are meant to be monster-head-shaped. Not surprisingly, Franken Berry's head is best suited for marshmallow verisimilitude.
How'd the Milk Taste?
How'd the Milk Taste?
Once the milk had taken on the cereals' colors, I dug in. Even after all these years, the Count still has my heart. That said, Franken Berry was surprisingly mild on the strawberry taste which made it better than I'd remembered. As for Boo Berry, not so much.
Milk Comparison
Milk Comparison
The three cereals all delivered on the promise to transform my milk. I decanted each to get a side-by-side.
