When we wanted to find some seriously delicious recipes for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year that begins tonight at sunset, we immediately reached out to Joan Nathan, whose cookbooks such as Jewish Cooking in America and Jewish Holiday Cookbook have been on our shelves for years (she's also coming out with a new one this November called Quiches, Kugels and Couscous: My Search for Jewish Cooking in France) and Arthur "The Food Maven" Schwartz, who's written six cookbooks over his 40-year career including Jewish Home Cooking: Yiddish Recipes Revisited. Both Joan and Arthur have been our go-to sources for Jewish holiday cooking; their recipes continue to elicit oohs and ahhs from family members.
