Just as I was beginning to tire of the seemingly endless onslaught of Gordon Ramsay-hosted television comes Masterchef. This American incarnation of the smash UK program pits home cooks against one another in competition for the title of Masterchef. Sure, the premise is predictable, but really it's the judges that have kept me watching all season. Ramsay, playing down his foul-mouthed temper, is joined by Joe Bastianich, Mario Batali's partner who posses the perfect impenetrable stare, and the bearish, bespectacled Graham Elliot. Together the three have a dynamic that rivals Tom and Padma. And the contestants? Well, they've been putting out some pretty formidable plates, considering their homespun roots. And for the record, my money is on Mike.
The newly released Masterchef Cookbook is filled with recipes from this season's contestants but thankfully, no spoilers, as the competition is still going strong. This weekend we are giving away four copies of Masterchef Cookbook. Five lucky winners will be chosen at random to receive a copy of the book. All you have to do is answer the following question in the comments below:
What dish would you prepare for Ramsay, Bastianich, and Bowles to qualify for Masterchef?
Contest will end and comments will close at noon EST, Tuesday, September 7, 2010. One entry per community member. Winners are limited to residents of the continental U.S. The standard Serious Eats contest rules apply.
