Market Scene: Cumberland United Methodist Church Farmers' Market in Atlanta

I'm starting to understand that when I hear about a farmers' market, I'd better get more information. Such was the case with the tiny Cumberland United Methodist Church Farmers' Market in Atlanta. When I arrived at the site, not a single booth was set up. Eventually one lone truck pulled in, followed by one more—that was the extent of the vendors. Luckily each of these vendors had ample wares for me to feel like it wasn't an exercise in futility. The vendors were actually just private people who either grew the vegetable, had friends who did, or baked the goodies themselves.

Muscadines.
I saw a nice selection of produce at the first stand and grabbed some okra and muscadines. I spoke with the vendor about what's in season and confessed that as a squash kind of a girl, I am happily anticipating fall's bounty.

The other vendor was a baker who sold her homemade goodies, which used local ingredients. I opted for the biscotti (she also had a gluten/dairy-free alternative), as well as some fig bars and zucchini bars.
As the air chills and becomes crisp and dry, the leaves begin to change and I remember once again why I love Atlanta. There are four distinct seasons and autumn is just breathtaking. The trees will be ablaze with color and, very soon, pumpkins will be for sale. Some crave summer for its fruit and beaches. Give me autumn any day with its cool temps and warm dishes.
