Gadgets: Sur La Table's Oil Mister

Last Week's Gadget
Cooking healthier is just one advantage to having an oil mister—for me, equal draws came in the shape of small-batch infusions and hopefully, less money spent on expensive oil over the course of the year. Sur La Table's budget version ($12.95) is cute enough to leave on the table, but that doesn't necessarily mean I've been using it as much as I've been looking at it.
Here's the thing: it just doesn't work. A mister should be straightforward and intuitive. You fill it, you twist it shut, you push down on the button and it should spray. But I've had more success with giveaway travel sets that I have had here—it seems no matter what I do, I can't get an even spray out of this one.
It started with a straightforward garlic infusion. Were the cloves getting in the way? Not if it didn't work once they were removed. Then I fixed my attention to the fill line, a supposed "maximum" limit for the little glass container. From the smallest quantity to the most, I got no more than a spattering out of the nozzle. Bust.
All roads are leading me to the Prepara Oil Mister in exchange, which seems to be a little less aesthetic but far more consistent in function. Whether that turns out to be the case may just have to be the subject of another column, but for now, be warned: This one just isn't cutting it.
