Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 131: In Need of Helpful Travel Eating Tips
I'm getting ready to hit the road tomorrow for almost two weeks, and though I am certainly worried about the road's effects on my weight, I'm actually feeling reasonably OK about my chances of staying the course on my serious diet.
Here's where I am headed:
- San Francisco
- Point Reyes and Bolinas
- Los Angeles
- San Francisco again
I'm going to be hitting burger joints, sweets spots, breakfast eateries, and a few barbecue joints for good measure, but somehow I think I will be able to make it through without just throwing in the towel, or should I say the napkin. Here's how I'm going to go about it, but if any serious eaters out there have words of wisdom concerning road eating, now is the time to share them.
My Road Eating Rules
At burger joints I'm going to limit myself to a quarter of a burger and seven fries.
At breakfast I'm going to take no more than three bites of anything.
Sweets get the two bite or two licks limit.
Barbecue is the toughest one to figure. Maybe a rib and two bites of brisket, pulled pork, and chicken has to be my limit. I'm only hitting two barbecue joints, so I should be okay.
No more than three bites of any item at a food truck or cart.
I've got a few serious eaters accompanying me each day, so we should be able to avoid wasting or throwing out too much food.
I'm in a good diet groove, I've been able to nibble without eating compulsively, and not even the hundred pints of ice cream in the SE freezer have succeeded in throwing me off track.I hope the week will be a wash. My interim weigh-ins have been okay. But let's see. 220. Same as last week. I was hoping to lose a pound, but I feel like I'm definitely getting a better handle on how and what I eat.
