Cook the Book: 'Planet Barbecue!'
When it comes to holiday weekends, Labor Day might be the most bittersweet of all. Pools and patio furniture are retired for the season, screens might be swapped for storm windows, and grills are covered and stowed until spring. It's the unofficial end of summer, and for most the last weekend to get in that final farewell to summer barbecue.
Since this might be your last chance to fire up the grill for a while, we thought we'd feature a truly exemplary barbecue cookbook this week: Planet Barbecue!
Planet Barbecue! is an international look at open air cooking from barbecue guru Steven Raichlen. From kebabs to kalbi, Raichlen has traveled the world in search of the best grillables out there and complied them into a book that educates and inspires. Recipes are culled from 60 countries, grillmasters from around the globe are profiled, and a world of barbecue techniques is meticulously mapped out.
In preparation for your Labor Day cookouts we will be forgoing the usual burgers and dogs for a selection of global barbecue recipes including Indonesian Baby Back Ribs with a Sweet Soy Glaze, Turkish Lamb Kebabs, and Grilled Japanese Shishito Peppers with Sesame Oil and Salt.
