Tasting the Hottest Curry in the World, Satan's Ashes
"The Day My Arse Died" is the cautionary title of Rauðúlfr Trollskogen's post about tasting Satan's Ashes, a blend of some of the world's hottest chili peppers—the Dorset Naga, the Naga Morich, and the Bhut Jolokia, known as the world's hottest chili pepper. With rice, naan, beer, and milk at the ready, he and his friend Stewart dug in:
Make no mistake, this is a killer from the very first bite. Although initially it's possible to taste the sauce which is sweet and a little fruity, this mostly tastes (in Stewart's words) "of pain."
I can't really put it any better than that. Not hot, just bloody painful. The real trick is to get it into your mouth without it touching your lips and to absorb as much of the spice on your tongue before swallowing it. Also: try not to die.
There's more colorful descriptions of the effects of the curry near the end of the post. If you too wish to experience arse death, you can buy Satan's Ashes from chileseeds.co.uk for £3.50 per pack. (Note: The post is from April 2009, but tales about eating super-hot chili peppers are timeless.) [via Metafilter]
