Video: Anthony Bourdain Appears as 'Dr. Tony' on 'Yo Gabba Gabba!'
Seen this video yet? Apparently, Anthony Bourdain's nearly 2-year-old-daughter, Ariane, likes the show Yo Gabba Gabba, which is one reason he may have agreed to appear on it. This episode will air on March 10, 2010. Wonder how the tyke will react when she sees her pops, as "Dr. Tony," helping Toodie over an illness. Video, after the jump.
Anthony Bourdain as 'Dr. Tony' on 'Yo Gabba Gabba!'
Says Bourdain about Yo Gabba Gabba:
I love YO GABBA GABBA. I don't care what you say, DJ Lance, Muno, Broby, Foofa, Toodie and Plex have taught my daughter many valuable lessons--like the desirability of napping, for one. Not to throw objects at Daddy's skull. Not biting. The value of "trying again" and "not giving up." All set to surprisingly weird, offbeat songs which--in another venue and with other lyrics, one might find oneself enjoying at a club. They get good indie bands as guests, and Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO is a regular. I know every song and every lyric by heart.

it'd be a lot cooler if he dropped a few f-bombs.

I was very excited to see this the other day. He wrote a blog post back in the fall about these Nick Jr. shows and mentioned his love for YGG. As the mom of a 3 yr old and the purchaser of many YGG toys/clothes, I was thrilled Bourdain is doing this for his kid. The show rocks and Bourdain knows it too! : )

is it just me or at the end when bourdain say's he is the doctor, he has this grin on his face that either says eh is about to kill Toodie...or he can't believe tha the guy who wrote Kitchen Confidential is being asked to perform on a kids show?
missing_LA at 9:53AM on 02/23/10
The grin at the end is a bit enigmatic, missing_LA.

This just turned my world upside down. Whoa.

Missing LA - He has a daughter now... so im sure he did it for her but with his typical tongue and cheek humor throw in with his facial expressions.
I guess even the old school punk rock people have to do things they didnt think they would as they get older... hell, look at Sonic Youth, Henry Rollins and others who have done that as they have gotten older... unless you are Jello Biafra, you tend to stay punk rock until you die giving the middle finger to America and all the sheep that reside in it :)

This show has had guests like:
Jack Black
Tony Hawk
Elijah Wood
Laila Ali
Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo has a regular skit. The show is like Sid & Marty Krofft on crack.

i need to start watching this show. i'm 21 with no small relatives, nor friends with younger siblings...basically no contact with young children, so i've never seen it and i think this is totally sweet. bourdain's grin - best.

Our friend Dottie, of Of Montreal fame will also be on this episode.

Toodie: Because you're the doctor?
Bourdain: That's right, Toodie. I am.
...Creeepy.

My 3 year old daugher is absolutely terrified of Yo Gabba Gabba.
rps at 12:31PM on 02/23/10
Haha. That's pretty awesome.
Is there another segment to the skit? Did I miss something? Cause I can't really figure out what it was trying to teach. Not to be afraid of doctors because they help you when you're sick?
wunami at 1:50PM on 02/23/10
Hehehe this is awesome!
I'm sure if you would have asked Tony 5 years ago which was more likely: him french kissing Rachael Ray or him appearing on this show, he would have picked Rachael Ray.
I agree, it would have been waaaaaaay better if he would have dropped a few f-bombs!
chilepepper99 at 2:48PM on 02/23/10
and then bashed Tootie over the head with his doctor bag......

My 3 year-old daughter loves Yo Gabba Gabba, and I have to admit, it's grown on me a lot in the past year and a half or so that she's been watching it. Like arm1970 said, there have been quite a few famous guest stars; Mya, Amare Stoudemire, Sugarland, Amy Sedaris, Rachel Dratch, and The Roots have also been on there. As a Bourdain fan, this will be an episode that my daughter and I will both enjoy quite a bit!

@ plazmaorb
Haha! So true!

If the Tony of the 20th century could see the Tony of the 21st, he'd never believe it...
AuntJenny at 7:28PM on 02/23/10
My nieces are five and six and they love Yo Gabba Gabba, even though they call it a "baby show." I always get it mixed up and call it Gabba Gabba Hey because I listen to The Ramones too much. This show is awesome and I sometimes find myself watching it when they're not around. Well, this show and the Misadventures of Flapjack, which is THE GREATEST CARTOON EVER.
I think the coolest thing Yo Gabba Gabba has ever taught me nieces is that there is such thing as a keytar and now they both want one so they can start a band. You better believe I'm getting them keytars for their birthday; they're going to rock the world!

Bourdain as a doctor...Dr. Kevorkian style maybe. Shepherding Toodie off to the hereafter.
chanterelle at 10:48PM on 02/23/10
he is awesome. i do agree with the creepiness of the last statement, but nice to see him in other things.
NinjaFujiko at 11:20AM on 02/24/10
To extend on plazmaorb's point, the show was created by the Aquabats. Things change once you've got kiddos running around. That said, my two year old loves it.
meleyna at 4:13PM on 02/24/10
So freakin creepy!!!!
Chef316 at 8:35PM on 02/26/10
Tony has certainly changed since he had a daughter.

Did someone put acid in my smoothie this morning???
shalomblack at 10:24AM on 03/01/10
I don't know how I feel given the guff he gives other chef's for "selling out". I guess anything for the kids
meascanbe at 5:39PM on 03/01/10
Hmmm, it's so weird seeing Toni this way. This show is so out of his element that he looks a bit awkward and it's obvious he's reading from a teleprompter. I wonder if his wife made him do this, lol...
KitchenVixxen at 8:02PM on 03/01/10
I've never seen this show and now I must! I used to watch Nick all the time when they had cartoons like Aah, Real Monsters and Ren & Stimpy.
Donnamarie at 3:51PM on 03/02/10
I think Keanu has some competition. Next step: Tony Bourdain is host on a children's cooking TV show...
