Celebrate International Ice Cream for Breakfast Day Tomorrow, February 6
No pancakes, no sausages, no bacon, no cereal—JUST ICE CREAM, BABY.
According to the foremost authority on International Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, there are only three rules for celebrating this most joyous holiday:
1. Eat ice cream
2. for breakfast
3. on the first Saturday in February
And then tell other people. If your friends refuse to partake, you might want to rethink that friendship.
The holiday was started in the 1960s in Rochester, New York by Florence Rappaport, who let her kids eat ice cream for breakfast on the first Saturday of February to make winter more bearable for them. Now this custom is done all over the world, from Minnesota to Israel to Australia. Join the Facebook group or Facebook event page to declare your IICFBD loyalty. There's also an International Ice Cream for Breakfast Day blog, although it's lacking information.
Moonlight Creamery in Fairport, New York, is using the holiday as an opportunity to raise money for Haiti. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow, they'll serve ice cream topped with your choice of Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles, Cap'n Crunch, or granola, along with Belgian waffles topped with ice cream. 100% of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. Molly Moon's in Seattle will also raise money tomorrow morning from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with special ice cream-topped oatmeal bowls.

Brilliant!
Don't think I will be able to eat ice cream for breakfast tomorrow, though. Maybe some frozen yogurt if I go to brunch.

I lived the first 40+ years of my life in the Rochester area, and this is the first I've ever heard about it. Move away for ten years and see what happens.

Nothing better than some Coffee Heath Bar Crunch ice cream with my coffee.

Gee, my timing could not have been better. I mentioned in another thread, I just got an ice cream maker a few days ago, and I have already made espresso coffee ice cream, Thai coconut gelato, and banana walnut rum ice cream. My spouse tried to rein me in, but that was a no go.

Heston Blumenthal's Bacon and Egg ice cream would be perfect for this occasion! Accompanied by some coffee ice cream of course.

So I didn't have ice cream for breakfast today, but I did dream about eating it this morning. It didn't taste good (in my dream) though ):
