Do good peanut donuts exist out there?
I was on my way to Cebu, an island in the Philippines for some serious scuba diving but ran into a layover at the Manila airport. I was intrigued when I spotted a Choco-Peanut Donut at the Mister Donut, located right by my departure gate.
Of course I bought one, but I'm sorry to say, it was not all that special. It had very little chocolate flavor, and the peanut coating was very, very light, however the donut did have a very soft cakey texture.
I realize this is a mass-produced donut, being served in an airport, so quality and freshness are not going to be out of this world. I also realize that when you buy food in a foreign country, you have to consider the local preferences for levels of sweetness, saltiness, and texture. But Filipino food is not known for its subtle flavors.
All in all, this donut was disappointing, which begs the question—has anyone ever had a really good peanut butter donut? Please share your recipe or go-to bakery.
