Happy National Sandwich Day!

It's National Sandwich Day! So designated because November 3 marks the birthday of John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, who popularized everyone's favorite lunch so long ago.
Looking to celebrate? We've rounded up the Best of Serious Eats Sandwich Coverage in honor of the occasion. And if you need a primer, start with Ed's 22 Sandwiches That Will Change Your Life.

Wow, I didn't know that... I brought sandwich fixings today coincidentally.
Sour dough bread, avocado slices, lettuce, cucumber slices, wafered Cajun turkey. I always bring my sandwich items in separate containers so they don't mix or get soggy.
I also brought potato corn chowder that my husband made two gigantic pots of and what we'll be eating for 4 days, a container of canteloupe, and 2 peanut butter cups.
Soup and sandwiches are my favorite meals, whether it's western soups and sandwiches, Asian soups with wraps, or a combination of the two!

@Cassaendra -- My favorite meals are some combination of soup, sandwich and salad. I've already had a soup lunch, so I'll have to plan a sandwich supper. Yum!

I adore sandwiches. I also like pizza and other dishes that offer a complete meal in a convenient, easy-to-eat package. The best sandwiches were at Chez Joey, a pizza and sandwich place in Newpaltz, NY. I think the sandwiches were so good because I only had them after a day rock climbing in the nearby Shawangunks or after my dad arrived home from such a day. Sadly, Chez Joey closed when I was still a kid and going to the Gunks was never the same.

Oh MY. I only know Faicco's from the amazing ingredients that make their way to my Grandma's house. That sunset sandwich might necessitate a separate trip.

The best sandwich i've ever had was at a restaurant in LA, it was called "the Martha Raye". It was on pumpernickel and had turkey, avocado, leaf lettuce and cream cheese on the bread. The turkey was'nt processed. It was baked turkey breast, sliced about 1/4 inch and layered. Good Lord, what I would give to have one right now! Dave

@old chef: That sounds positviely droolworthy and delicious. The simple, basic things are often the best.
