Breaking: Hope for Canned Pumpkin Shortage

20091111-pieman.jpgThough the pumpkin crop wasn't so hot this year and some have flipped about a potentially apocalyptic canned pumpkin shortage, Whole Foods says settle down. According to an email from a PR representative we just received, the store has plenty of their Whole Foods Market 365 canned pumpkin in stock, in fact more than normal. The organic pumpkin crop didn't hurt as badly since it didn't face the same issues with fungus and mold. But if you still can't find the orange stuff, here are some pumpkin pie alternatives.

Trader Joe's has shelves and shelves of canned pumpkin as well.

I found a whole shelf of pumpkin (Libby's even) at my local Buehlers. I'm not sure if folks outside of Ohio have Buehlers or not, sorry.

My local Super Stop & Shop (Yonkers NY) not only has plenty of Libby's, but has it on sale at 2/$3 for the 15 oz cans.

We've got canned pumpkin in our region.
If you can't find it, substitute squash or make sweet potatoe pie. Mmmmm!

Libby's was on sale here in the Bay Area so I bought some. But then I bought a Cinderella pumpkin at a farmer's market and I might never use canned again.

I bought 8 cans of Libbys from Fresh Direct. I do not want to run out! That should last me till spring and not one pumpkin pie I will make. Breads, soups, oatmeals, and puddings yes.
