Weekend Cook and Tell: Spaghetti, Meatballs, and Wine
Last week's Weekend Cook and Tell challenge was all about an Italian-American classic, and its favorite quaffable partner: Spaghetti, Meatballs, and Wine. We asked you to share your favorite spaghetti and meatballs recipe, and throw in the wine pairings. This challenge inspired some pretty varied responses, some included meatballs, some wine, but the common thread was pasta. Here are some favorites:
To kick off this round up, here's a quote from dmcavanagh: "Meatballs are as personal as fingerprints, 100 different people could serve you theirs and no two would be the same."
Growing up in an Italian-American family meant that EliEats was no stranger to the traditional Sunday ragu. Along with plenty of spaghetti, meatballs, sausage and braciole were also included in the bubbling pot of red sauce. EliEats' secret to the best sauce? A dash of sugar right at the end and Italian seasoning.
rumanddiet has decided to grind meat at home for spaghetti and meatballs, and drink homemade wine courtesy of a grandfather who ferments it at home.
A self-proclaimed bout of laziness has caused tusti to forgo homemade sauce for the grocery store kind. But tossed with some ground and browned chuck, it hits the spot.
orchidgirl offered up a recipe for spaghetti with mushrooms, leeks, parmesan and mint. No meatballs were involved in this meal, but two out of three ingredients ain't bad.
whoot tried out beef meatballs from Cook's Illustrated but proclaimed them "meh, or worse." Looks like whoot will be sticking to the tried and true combination of ground veal, beef, and pork for the next batch of meatballs.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to participate in this week's Weekend Cook and Tell challenge. It was great to hear about what all of you are eating for at home, on the couch or at the table. Be sure to head over to Talk and read about next week's challenge: Restaurant Recreations.
