Video: Jets Quarterback Mark Sanchez Eats a Hot Dog During Game

20091026-jets-hotdog.jpg

What really happens on the NFL sidelines? People eat hot dogs. At least Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets did at yesterday's game against the Oakland Raiders, only to be busted by cameras. He later apologized for wolfing down the tube meat, saying he "wasn't feeling very good" and needed a snack. Thanks to a great zoom-in job, we see that Sanchez is a mustard man. Sounds like he needs to read our mustard taste test for optimal sidelines snacking pleasure. The video and Sanchez's explanation, after the jump.

Mark Sanchez Responds

I guess I don't understand why eating a hot dog requires an apology.

i agree!!! why the apology? eat your snack!!

Well, it is in the middle of a game... My coach would probably yell at me if I was snacking on the sidelines during a volleyball match. But if he wasn't feeling well, why would he reach for a hot dog?! Blech. I thought they drink gatorade to boost energy with sugars. I would think a greasy hot dog would slow you down.

It was the end of the game and Mark was taken out and wouldn't play anymore anyway, so having a hot dog wouldn't hurt him. Glad to see that it wasn't loaded up with all the unneccesary crap that people on the west Coast are known to desecrate their hot dogs with.

Uh, oh, that's the lead story tonight?

Eating a hot dog while PLAYING in a game.

My kind of food.

Check out what stadiums I have eaten a hot dog in as well as hot dog news, and hot dog restaurant reviews at dogsontheroad.blogspot.com

Meh, Babe Ruth ate plenty of hot dogs during games. He did just fine. Well, he did just fine before joining the 'buy our way to the top' team that lives in NYC ;)

i think he felt like he needed to apologize because he didn't want to seem like he was showing up the raiders. (even the they are terrible).

Imagine the trouble he would have been in if he had had two dogs and tried to make them fight.

It seems absurd beyond belief that a player could get in trouble for eating a ballpark dog. What exactly is the rationale behind banning such a thing?

when i was in marching band in college, we weren't allowed to eat or drink anything (besides the water and apples we were given after halftime performance) in uniform. maybe it's the same policy?

Reminds me of when Ezra Johnson (defensive lineman for the Packers) chowed down a hot dog on the sidelines in the 4th quarter of a blowout game against the Broncos...however big difference--the Packers were down 38-0. When you're done playing for the day because you're winning big--like Sanchez and the Jets were--you're allowed. When you're done playing because you're losing big--like Johnson and the Packers were--not so much

Vinnyger nailed it. It's disrespectful to other team when your beating the crap out of them. It's like rubbing their noses in it.
