Video: Getting Kid Ready for School, with Bento Box, in Less Than 5 Minutes

20091006-japanese-speed-bento.jpg

We found this video of a Japanese mother and son's speedy morning prep routine via Maki Itoh of Just Bento, who sifts through the wackiness to find the truly useful tips--like the use of a takoyaki pan to cook many items at once or using a jar to make onigiri. Peep the vid, after the jump.

That was hilarious! If only mornings worked that smoothly in my house.

Totally wanna try putting on my pants while shaking a jar to make onigiri.

I can watch stuff like that all day. Last night there was a Korean cooking show on a local channel here called Star Chef. A woman made a pizza by first boiling the dough and then searing it in the same pan with oil. She put corn and potatoes on it and then they ate pieces of it with chopsticks! It was good television.

rad. The mother sleeps on top of the child?

@chinolam: I know, right? That's what I thought first time I watched this.* I think there was some cheating going on once the camera moved off the bed. I'm guessing the kid moved into position off-camera.

* I just got really, majorly, existentially depressed thinking that I watched this more than once. Somewhere, somehow, if there is ever an accounting of my life that takes note of the fact that I wasted 5 minutes on this video, I will cry. (The first 5-minute watch was understandable; the second is wasted life.)
