Data Visualization: Subway Locations in the U.S.

If you've ever passed a Subway and thought, "Wait, didn't i just pass one 20 seconds ago?" this map of Subway locations in the U.S. from Dagoosh! won't surprise you. Aside from the lack of a fiery red glow, It doesn't look very different from the McDonald's locations map. The farthest you can be from a Subway is 138 miles, between the towns of Austin and Eureka. If it weren't for the lake I wouldn't be able to find Chicago, it's so covered in red!

Is it crazy that I look at that map and I'm happy to see a more white than red where I live?

Thankfully, the free enterprise system is able to bring this form of public transportation to areas that would otherwise be unserved!

In Manhattan, I once worked at midtown location where within one block there were 4 Starbucks and 4 Duane Reades. Don't know how many Subways because I don't pay attention to them. Maybe 4?

I once worked in an office in the outer suburbs. It was all new construction. Subway was a lifesaver. It was either food from home, Subway, or all the worst fast food options. Subway is not my choice, but it sure was a better place to go with a few friends than a McDonald's or Taco Bell.
