Tonight at 10 p.m. ET, come join us as we watch the sixth episode of Top Chef Las Vegas. The magic-debunking duo Penn & Teller will swing by for the Quickfire, and for the Elimination Challenge, cheftestants will have to channel their inner Jacques Derrida and deconstruct a dish. This crew of chefs have a good vibe going , one of the better seasons i think

@BiereBeer: Totally agreed. A lot of characters, and only one completely abrasive guy...

final 5: the bothers, kevin, mike, and jen
jen to win it all

... actually, two.

Oh, lay off Robin. She might not be as technically skilled but if the food's good, the food's good.

@ carey jones, i feel like Robin has gotten a bad rap in the kitchen, but do you think she deserved that immunity? I feel like a salad and a dessert was sort of well... easy

I would love to deconstruct whomever the F*#! Came up with deconstructing dishes! How about make a dish the best you can' the way it was supposed to be made, and stop making up shit to cover up your shortcomings as a cook! Damn I hate that shit!

Robin needs to be flogged with wilted romaine lettuce!

@cheesebreadbutter: Yeah, it did look pretty simple, but then again, there are always people who fail miserably with desserts on Top Chef. I'd have to think this one turned out incredibly well.

@myname agreed

Jen, stop worrying—your dish looks fantastic.

robin got very lucky

I think Ron is a fair decision

i was really disappointed with Eli's comment (about Robyn) in the Quickfire challenge. She's just telling the story behind her food, not to use her illness to buy sympathy. Besides, I thought her dishes were lovely.

the quickfire was lame, the salad and dessert shouldnt have won. and im sorry but the comment about her using cancer to her advantage was justified by her winning. just my opinion, and deconstructing food is one of my favorite things, i'm tired of the classics (although wonderful) its a new generation lets renovate them any way we can!

I'm mostly glad that Ashley is starting to come into her own. I had a feeling she'd be one of the top prospects if she lasted awhile.

How the F do you deconstruct fish n' chips?!? Its two ingredients! (3 if you use malt vinegar on your chips) OK and breading. But still! I thought that was a bit unfair.
Any ideas?

@ LetThem - Deconstruction is in many ways about matching flavors and tweaking presentation. Fish and chips would have been easy.

Laurine could have redone the dish as fish croquettes with a creamy sauce on the inside and a crispy potato crust. Maybe do it as a "fish and chip tapas" with a miniature fried Mars bar and a fresh pea salad or green pea soup on the side (instead of the traditional mushy peas). Another option would have been a potato chip napoleon done with very large potato slices, layered with a grilled fish and a micro green salad with a swirl of a caper "tartar sauce" on the side.

Really, there were a number of possibilities. As Ashley's success showed, you do not need to go high-tech on deconstruction if you cook the food well and get the flavors correct.
