beer and mystery meat did it for me.

I gained 20. It totally sneaked up on me though. It doesn't seem like much when the pounds are gained 5 a year... but then suddenly bam! I was a senior and 20 lbs heavier and totally did not notice because of all the elastic pants I'd been wearing.... College is terrible for the health.

I was so paranoid about the Freshman 15, that I actually lost weight. Not in any healthy manner either.

i feel like the guys gain it more easily, i lost about 6 pounds freshmen year, i hated the food and played so much basketball, but then gained 15 after i started cooking for myself and had to study more....
all you do is sit and study and eat, i miss my basketballl =[

Maybe I have the opposite take on this, but as a guy that paid his own way through college and lived off campus, I probably lost fifteen pounds. The lowest point came when I had a mayonnaise sandwich for dinner and breadcrumbs drizzled with Ranch dressing for desert. Oh, the shame. Luckily soon afterwards, I got my own personal chef. His name was Boyardee, but it beat the hell out of breadcrumbs...

I lost weight as well, by being more physically active, and actually the food was better than what I ate at home. I did go through several unhealthy depressed binging periods, but they were leveled out by not eating periods. On the whole, I think college is a period of 'experimentation' (not as a euphemism, just in terms of finding yoruself) and I think it isn't that everyone gains weight, but most people 'change weight.'

I'm in my senior year now, and I'm 10 lb heavier than I was as a freshman...but! I was actually TOO thin entering university and after cooking a lot of great food for myself and biking around a hilly city, I put on a tiny bit of feminine curve and some serious leg muscles, so I think it compensates.
It's actually pretty easy to avoid the freshman 15, especially now that meal plans trying harder and harder now to accomodate healthy diets (instead of just mass producing burgers and grilled cheese). I imagine though that even 7-8 years ago, with a forced meal plan, it would have been way more difficult.

it is HARD not to gain weight in college. Especially with a meal plan. I don't know what ya'll are talking about. Luckily I cook for myself now, but I probably gained 30 lbs once college started.
It is so difficult for new freshman. If you give a baby a cookie or a carrot, they will choose the cookie. Worst thing I did Freshman year was buy a thing of Pillsbury Cookie dough and eat the whole thing raw. There is no one to hold you accountable... a blessing and a curse.

I've gained five pounds in the three and some years I've been at college, and some of that was my body just finishing up it's growing and whatnot. But I have seen some fall to the Freshman 15. Just not me.
But, I eat healthy at the dining halls, keep healthy snacks on hand, and eat vegetarian when I'm at my apartment.
And I also haven't fallen into spending too much time with Mr. Booze. That's a definite diet breaker.

Oh yeah. The lack of accountability. It really did me in. I ate whatever and didn't exercise at all.
