Video: How to Make a Hot Dog Flute

20090902-hotdogflute.jpg

Why eat a hot dog when you can transform it into a wind instrument? All you need is a freezer and a drill. Simply pop the wiener into the freezer and "once it is rock hard" (the video's words, not mine) slip a paper pattern on top with the strategically drawn holes and drill through them. The video reassures any anti-food wasters that excess wiener dregs, a natural byproduct after drilling, can be saved for future uses. The meatflute tutorial, after the jump.

why don't you just skip all the terrible sexual metaphors and go out and get yourself a real weiner?

right? aren't hotdogs phallic enough without being made into skin flutes? gross.

Seems that the posts are traveling down the slippery slope of innuendo and poor taste AGAIN.

Mostly poor taste. Can we stop please? Creative is one thing. These types of posts are just stupid.

Didn't your mother ever tell you not to play with your food?

oh c'mon now. skin flutes are funny. plain and simple.

Wonder if he can play "Tube Steak Boogie" on that thing.........

*giggle* "gristle whistle" *chortle*

@CJ McD:
hm.
Perhaps you should consider applying for the Serious Eats "good vs. poor taste" monitoring position? Though I don't think there is one because it's a food blog and community.
If something like this makes it past the moderator we should actually celebrate!
I enjoyed it Erin :)

I doubt these posts are actually supplanting the regular posts. So just skip them if they don't float your boat.

The "fun" posts are hit or miss for me, but I don't have a problem with them being posted. But I think a lot of people probably enjoy them without bothering to comment.

That's a great idea! After all, this IS "SERIOUS" Eats, isn't it?

"Though I don't think there is one because it's a food blog and community."
Aw shoot..... there isn't one? *hopes dashed*
