Serious Eats Is Bringing Hot Doug's to NYC October 7

[UPDATE: The Hot Doug's event is sold out. Sorry!] Listen up, serious eaters! For one night only, Doug "Hot Doug" Sohn is taking his show on the road and bringing it to Astor Center in New York City. To score some of Chicago's finest hot dogs, you would usually have to hop a plane to O'Hare, drive out to Avondale, and wait in a two-hour line at the legendary Hot Doug's (that's what Robyn and I did a couple of weeks ago, but man was it worth it).
But for one evanescent eve, you can book a table for two right here in Manhattan with Doug himself. The chef, owner, and resident personality behind this beloved institution will join us for the evening, serving up Chicago-style hot dogs, foie dogs, and his famous duck fat fries.
The foie dog and duck fat fries.
Each $65 ticket represents a table for two and a meal of two Chicago dogs, two foie gras dogs, an order of duck fat fries, and a six pack of beer, as well as a tasty surprise to start. It's a bargain even if the meal was one you could get any old time, an amazing steal when you consider the airfare that would usually be involved.
There is an early and a late seating but only 30 spots for each, so act fast. [UPDATE: The Hot Doug's event is sold out. Sorry!]

Thanks, Jacquie. I just updated the post.

That's great! I know it's not the most exotic thing he ever offers, but if he does the thuringer, that's one of my top 10 things to eat in Chicago. Anything involving game meats is usually excellent, too.

Thanks for the head's up Ed!
I used to live out in the midwest and try to get back to Hot Doug's whenever I can. I've waited many hours on cold winter days on the corner of California and Roscoe for a hot order of duck fat fries and one of the speciality dogs. I just snapped up a ticket and can't wait to see him NYC.

Just got a ticket for the 6:30 seating! I was vying for the final slot at 8:30 but was foiled by billing information lag :[ Many thanks for the tip, Ed.

There were 4 seats left when I clicked, for the 6:30 seating -- so, 2 left!

I moved away from Chicago in January and still dream of the yummy goodness at Hot Doug's. I'm sure everyone who gets to go to this will have an enjoyable time!
(I also miss Smoque and Kuma's Corner. If any of these places want to do an event in SF, that would be fantastic!)

Doug's has one of the best representations of a Chicago Dog i've ever had... and i've had a bunch. if you dont like his, you're probably not gonna like em anywhere else. enjoy! also, i find the duck fat fries are almost better when you let em sit for a while...

Dogdamn! That foie dog looks ridiculous.
Too bad I won't find anything like that round here. Chicago dogs and italian beef...I miss them both.

Mmmmm . . . Hot Doug's! We learned the first time to be there when it opens, if possible (45 minute line instead of 2 hour line), and, if not, to bring folding chairs and reading material.
Right now the best is the Saucisson Alsacienne: Bacon Sausage with Creme Fraiche, Caramelized Onions and Double Creme Brie Cheese. Delicious -- but practice saying it before you go, because Doug WILL mock you if you mispronounce it.

Wow, I am sorry I read this post late! I have been savoring over those foie dogs and duck fat fries for years now. Looks like I will have to find some excuse to go visit old friends in Chicago and go to the real institution. Those pics are making me drool.
