Paula Deen Is Trying to Kill Us, With Cookware!

Though her methods usually involve deep-fried butter balls, this time Paula Deen is trying to kill us via cast iron cookware. As Diner's Journal points out, Deen started selling cast iron products through QVC in March, but buyers were recently alerted of a recall on three of the items, which can reportedly "crack or shatter during heating."

Flabbergasted here. There are too many excellent and reasonably-priced cast iron lines such as Lodge for anyone to buy or brand their name on anything so cheaply made. Has Paula gone too commercial? I'm beginning to wonder.

Paula gives a shit about only Paula. I got it years ago.

I'm surprised there isn't an article on her butter melting saucepot....

I think the British navy perfected anti-personnel iron cookware during the Napoleonic wars?

I had a cast iron pan that cracked on the stove. Not a PD brand, this was years ago. The "ping" sound that it made when it cracked scared the daylights out of me.

Biggest problem with something like this isn't the loss of the pan, but that whatever liquid you have in the pan is now seeping (or pouring -- depends on how big the crack is) directly out the bottom of the pan and onto the heat. If you've got oil in there pouring onto a gas stove, you've got the potential for a huge fire.

Fortunately, when mine broke, I was standing right next to it. But if you've halfway across the kitchen or have your back turned, you could have a fireball in no time. Sure, you should watch what's on the stove, but who doesn't multitask or leave something on simmer while the run to the bathroom or answer the door?

I would be surprised if this was NOT made in China...

I love Paula. Even if she IS trying to kill me!

Paula Deen is a phony and... no surprise... so are her products.

The one problem I've had with cast iron is that newer stuff seems to have a rougher profile than older and therefore slightly stickier.

Die in a fire, y'all!

WHAT...foodtv...RIPPING PEOPLE OFF!!!
WHAT A JOKE...I SAY IF YOU BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM YOU ARE ASKING TO BE RIPPED OFF!!!

ham sandwich...thy using a fine grade of steel wool on the pans, to get a smoother surface

I won't buy any celebrity-endorsed product for the endorsement. When we moved to a fully-furnished home temporarily, a few months ago, I couldn't live with the lightweight scratched teflon frying pan they had. It had cancer written all over it. So the best pan Wal-Mart had was a copper sandwich teflon pan with, you guessed it, Paula Deen's name on it. It's served us well the past few months. When I buy cast iron, it's Lodge. btw, my husband keeps laughing at me and my "Paula Deen" pan! All because 98% of our lives, including my kitchen, is in storage 1,500 miles away! Dee

Actually, Lodge is THE made in America cast iron. Is her line made over seas?....

I notice that QVC no longer has any of Paula Deen's cast iron cookware available at this time. Probably for the reason mentioned. And they certainly were made in China. Her choice of a manufacturer for the cast iron was a poor one. Just like her choice for her favorite President Jimmy Carter.

Glad to see this post. Her cast iron cookware is on clearance at Wal-Mart... no wonder.....

and..........all of her regular cookware as well as casserole/baking dishes are for sale @ Ollie's..........how low can you go? I guess not too many people are falling for the junk FN sells. What's with these people so much greed the a tv show isn't enough?
