iVillage Knocks off the Chick-fil-A Lettering?

20090911-chickfila.jpgSilicon Alley Insider points us to the redesigned logo for iVillage, the interactive women's website. Hmm, why does it make us suddenly crave chicken sandwiches and waffle fries from a mall food court? All they forgot was the feather crest and beak.

Lol, they totally ripped it off.

Umm...the one "L" looks a lot like the Chick-fil-A font. The rest of it, not so much. The "i"s in particular are totally different. Try again. :-P

no. the "i" is treated differently. similar though; I wonder if the type is registered or trademarked?

But the first impression is "hey, that looks like chik-fil-a". No one is making the claim that they are actually using the same typeface.

The iVillage one looks more hand-tooled, but like they were inspired by the same base

perhaps because im a graphic designer i'm biased. but even the colours' are entirely different. just because they used a casual script with a thick stroke doesn't mean the ripped it off. *meh* to each their own :)

Don't really see the comparison; similarity yes, but not enough to say its ripped off.

As a world-famous expert on fonts who often testifies in supreme court cases on the subject (yes I'm the famous guy you've heard so much about and seen on Oprah and other high-profile shows), it is my opinion that the fonts are identical.

the color, weight, and letters besides the L are different. Has cursive become so rare that we only think of chick-fil-a now when we see it? okay, I pretty much only think of chick-fil-a anyway, but still...

i knew i saw that new ivillage logo somewhere else!

Hmmm, let's see ... they are both lower-case, both cursive ... both bright colors ... yup, good enough for me! Lawsuit!

You must be kidding. chick fil a loses hands down with no contest. They will not even put ketchup in pump dispensers. Their management in Royersford Pa. claim after talking to their consultants that the packets cost more and are more environmentally friendly. Yes that is right a unit volume of ketchup in a packet costs more than a unit volume of bulk ketchup. But wait if no one goes to open the inconvenient packet then the packets are cheaper because no one uses them due to the nuisance. The packet is environmentally friendly until opened. If the bulk ketchup is dispensed into the french fry pouch at McDonalds how is that environmentally unfreindly. Shame on the loser.
