Finally! A Heart-Shaped Watermelon

If the square watermelon concept still kind of blows your mind, this will straight explode it. A Japanese farmer and his wife have cultivated a heart-shaped watermelon. "It was an act of love for the couple where they wanted the fruit of their labor to symbolize their feelings for each other," according to Weird Asia News. Each fruit, which took three years to perfect, is going for 15,750 yen ($160).

they cast a shaping mold on a fruit while it's still small (square ones came out first, then pyramid shaped this year... hadn't heard about heart shaped ones). Being Japanese I always get teased about this, but personally I think these Chinese pears are cooler:

You can buy forms. (have done this). Works really well with summer squash, which grows fast. And you pick it at any given size, whereas pumpkins and watermelons grow til ripe.
