Gulden's Spicy Brown.

Beaver's Deli mustard! Unbelievable stuff. The huge seeds give it a lot of texture, and it's just perfectly balanced. I went through a whole bottle, and maybe made 3 or 4 sandwiches with it - I'd just squeeze out a little bit on my finger and eat it raw.
zdunham at 6:32PM on 09/30/09
Maille Dijon Originale - Creamy and spicy with just the right amount of tang.
I'll eat pretty much any mustard raw. People think I'm weird, but I love it!
bitchincamero at 6:34PM on 09/30/09
Silver Springs: Beer N' Brat mustard....my favorite!
KWBrown at 6:38PM on 09/30/09
I'm really partial to Inglehoffer, especially their stone ground mustard.
bansidhe at 6:40PM on 09/30/09
Plochman's natural stone ground.
dmcavanagh at 6:40PM on 09/30/09
Beaver's Sweet Hot and plain ole Grey Poupon for sandwiches
Pommery Cognac mustard [it was a gift!] for BLTs .
French's yellow mustard for dogs, burgers and fry sauce.
Beaver's Stone Ground for sausages.
Truth be told, I have no less than 9 different types of mustard in my fridge at the moment - it's my favorite condiment - I have a friend who collects strange local mustards for me when she travels [most recently, a sweet Maui Onion] - mmm mmm.
sakuraa at 6:41PM on 09/30/09
Maille Dijon is super, too - good for adding a bitey kick to soups, and for rubbing on roast chicken [pre-roast].
sakuraa at 6:43PM on 09/30/09
Sweet Hot Mister Mustard is the best mustard in the world and Esquire agrees with me:

Mandyhello at 6:55PM on 09/30/09
I practically grew up on French's Honey mustard, and later became partial to Deli Mustards - Grey Poupon's always been good to me
Inglehoffer's another brand that I've tried and liked
vickster at 6:56PM on 09/30/09
I completely agree with Beaver, Deli Mustard. It is hands down the favorite in this house!
All of the Beaver products are amazing especially the thick Deli Mustard and horseradish.
Damn, we just ran out of both.
Top Sheff at 7:02PM on 09/30/09
Have never seen Beaver mustard, anyone in the northeast know where it's available?
dmcavanagh at 7:10PM on 09/30/09
On sandwiches and hot dogs (and OMG, soft pretzels!!!) I like good ol' Gulden's mustard. You can't beat it! It's the perfect combination of spicy brown and yellow. I also like the whole grain/stone ground dijon mustards for things like potatoes or other cooking dishes.
imperfectcomplainer at 7:30PM on 09/30/09
Maille old style! Good on sandwiches, or with honey and baked on chicken. Also so good to eat straight out of the jar. Mm.
Yukiyummy at 7:58PM on 09/30/09
Beaver Sweet Hot for sandwiches
Coleman's for bangers
French's for franks and brats
The Wiz at 8:13PM on 09/30/09
I'll give another nod to Maille Dijon. My standard "nuthin fancy" mustard is Gulden's. Inglehoffer's Extra Hot is for when I'm in the mood for horseradish (and that means I want extreme nasal burning).
Avocado at 8:26PM on 09/30/09
I find that the Trader Joe's Dijon mustard has a nice, sharp bite to it that I love- Maille and Grey Poupon seem tame and buttery in comparison.
ngarklav at 8:26PM on 09/30/09
Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon?
cookandeatwithryan at 8:30PM on 09/30/09
French's Yellow mustard, followed closely by Guldens Spicy Brown
velascomike at 8:56PM on 09/30/09
Nance's Sharp and Creamy mustard. Like a creamy Dijon. I like it with a slice of ham, apple, and cheddar on toast. Yum!
sunbyrne at 9:01PM on 09/30/09
I picked up a tub of mustard at Sur La Table and fell in love with it. It's imported from France so you know it's tasty! The name of it is "Moutarde de Meaux Pommery." It's a grainy mustard; strong but thin consistency save the grains of mustard. I highly recommend this mustard. Also comes in cool packaging.
caroline h. at 9:24PM on 09/30/09
Fox Hollow Farms mustard! da beeeeeeeeeeeest
Grace Kang at 9:30PM on 09/30/09
Plochman's stone ground is my standby
wizzy at 9:51PM on 09/30/09
Try Stadium Mustard - it's the best!!!
www.stadiummustard.com (altho it looks like you can only order by the case...)
abbyroad at 10:12PM on 09/30/09
Nathan's Deli mustard. OM NOM NOM. Sweet, sour and tangy. Great on pretzels.
Teahlo at 10:18PM on 09/30/09
Inglehoffe's Sweet Hot... soooo good.
mgnnn at 10:32PM on 09/30/09
The chain Cosi uses the most amazing spicy honey mustard. If you can find out what it is, where I can get it, or how I could make it at home, I would be deliriously grateful. That honey mustard is the only reason I eat there anymore.
annabanannas at 10:40PM on 09/30/09
DH's choice would be Koop's Arizona Heat.
Seriously, though, doesn't it make sense to break the mustards down into traditional (yellow/brown), dijon and variants, and fancy?
@sunbyrne - Yes on the Nance's!
Mizbee at 10:40PM on 09/30/09
Ba-Tam-Te Deli Mustard. The only brand I use at home (well, Maille dijon for recipes, but never on a sandwich).
DrGaellon at 11:02PM on 09/30/09
Maille cassis mustard! Delicious. (Particularly on French fries; forgive me.)
Expatslat at 11:17PM on 09/30/09
Nobodys mentioned Boetjes ? Midwest standard German ,dark . Made in Rock Island ,Ill
jfitz at 5:09AM on 10/01/09
Honeycup mustard. Vermont Maple Horseradish Mustard, which appears not to be available separately on their web site. French's classic yellow on hot dogs, since the hot dog wouldn't taste like a hot dog to me otherwise.
lemonfair at 6:12AM on 10/01/09
Grey Poupon is my go-to mustard, though lately I've been really enjoying the Sweet Garlic Mustard from Peju Province Winery in Napa Valley.
DuncanHusky at 8:40AM on 10/01/09
Raye's Sweet & Spicy mustard is my new go to sandwich slatherer, I found it at World Market here in Florida and will stock up incase they pull it. My back up mustard is Ben's Sweet Hot. Both are outstanding full-flavored condiments I use for sandwiches and as additions to my feeble attempts at making sauces.
funkopolis at 8:47AM on 10/01/09
Please give us a honey mustard category. Spicy mustards are quite delicious but there are times when only a sweet mustard will do. Nance's has always been a favorite.
The Gourmand at 9:14AM on 10/01/09
Pommery Green Peppercorn Mustard, or, being all chichi - Moutarde au Poivre Vert. This stuff is so good I'll just eat a spoonful of it they way one does with peanut butter. It's not cheap, but man, I go through it like like wildfire.
chisai at 10:20AM on 10/01/09
Colman's!
Jenn Sit at 10:21AM on 10/01/09
Ditto Coleman's, but for everyday I like the Natural Value yellow mustard that's cheap at my co-op
thatgrrl at 11:06AM on 10/01/09
Roland Extra-Strong Dijon
seamus o'caithain at 11:27AM on 10/01/09
Yellow mustard doesn't taste like mustard to me. It tastes like Vinegar.
Maille's my brand for sure.
@Expatslat - oh man it's a deadly blend!! soo good
I'm a fan of most President's Choice condiments as well.
hungrychristel at 12:35PM on 10/01/09
Honeycup Mustard. There's nothing else out there like it. Such a strong flavor, I love it. In fact, I'm eating a sandwich with it right now!
Sara E at 12:59PM on 10/01/09
Kosciusko Spicy Brown Mustard
guido at 1:18PM on 10/01/09
definitely stadium mustard. might only be available in Cleveland though. now I'm going to have to check Boston supermarkets for it....
hoppzor at 1:47PM on 10/01/09
Maille Dijon, like many others have said. Though I also have developed a fondness for Grey Poupon coarse ground mustard, which I often use in my cooking as well.
alosha7777 at 1:49PM on 10/01/09
Woebel's Sweet and Spicy Mustard - well balanced, not too sweet at all. Then again, I find a lot of honey mustards way too sweet.
Gulden's Mustard for a spicy, yet mild and found everywhere here in the Northeast.
Grifola frondosa at 2:40PM on 10/01/09
Bertman's Ballpark Mustard - absolutely the best! (I live in CT but order it from OH)
Stonewall Kitchen's Blue Cheese & Herb Mustard, amazing flavors abound.

I agree with all those praising Nance's Sharp & Creamy mustard. I swear I could eat it with a spoon. Once a devoted ketchup user with french fries, I now dip them in Nance's....if that's not love, I don't know what is.
gidgejane at 8:07PM on 10/01/09
Raye’s “Down East Schooner” Mustard. It was also the gold medal winner in the 'Classic American Yellow Mustard' category at the 2009 Mustard Competition.
Sullt at 10:43PM on 10/01/09
i buy trader joe's dijon because it's so much cheaper than maille, which was my standard for years. would love to see how your panel compares the two.
cybercita at 11:48PM on 10/01/09
My work's home base is in Switzerland. There, I discovered Thomy’s Senf. I thought at first, it was toothpaste, as it's sold in a tube (very portable). Thomy is a Swiss brand that produces food products such as mayonnaise, mustard, salad dressings, and the best [again in a tube] tomato paste. If you can get a tube of this Swiss equivalent to the U.S. 'every home has some' of French's Yellow, you'll love it. It's creamy and thick, has a nice sharpness and is packed with amazing flavor.
ejburrows at 5:32AM on 10/02/09
Hengstenberg Medium Hot German Mustard, great flavor without the vinegar taste of most yellow mustards.
PrairieThistle at 12:01PM on 10/02/09
I like a lot of different kinds, all mentioned above, but wanted to put in a vote of confidence for the Garlic Dijon Aioli at Trader Joe's. It's goood.
