Hot Dogs from Blue Light in Provincetown, Massachusetts

Note: Penny Cherubino of BostonZest usually covers Boston-area farmers and farmers' markets for us, but she couldn't help but report on these noteworthy hot dogs. Take it away, Penny!

Every tourist town needs a place where you can count on simple, fresh, well-prepared food, and for Provincetown, it's Blue Light. The comfort food haven specializes in hamburgers, sandwiches, quesadillas, soups, wraps, and hot dogs, which go beyond meat tubes in a bun. Send a friend there and you might get the following e-mail response: "The Pig was a life-changing experience!"

The Pig is a grilled, jumbo, all-beef hot dog topped with chili, bacon and cheddar—add sour cream and it's a Pig Daddy. Or try the Alpine, a hot dog topped with Swiss cheese, Dijon mustard, and sauerkraut. Ask for a Dixie and they'll layer the dog with spicy mustard and cole slaw. The Hot Cha Cha tucks Jack cheese and hot peppers into the bun.

They'll top your egg and cheddar with any combination of bacon, ham, linguica (a Portuguese sausage), and salsa. What's more, you can have it on buttered, griddle-toasted focaccia or a bagel.

The kitchen also bakes addictive coconut cupcakes, terrific muffins, and a delicious selection of cookies.

Pay Blue Light a visit before they close for the season. This time of year you'll find a note with the hours taped to the door.

How can you write a post about the Blue Light without mentioning their lobster rolls??
Hands down favorite lobster roll in Ptown.

me want pig daddy. NOW.

About that lobster roll... I'm from Rhode Island and grew up with lobster rolls that consisted of a toasted roll with lobster served with drawn butter on the side.

Sorry, I'm not a fan of lobster salad rolls with mayo. But, I do understand that many Blue Light fans love their version. One more thing that they do very well.
