Video: Churning Artisanal Butter in Maine
You can almost smell and taste the butter in this video from the Boston Globe. It goes inside the Kate's Homemade Butter "factory"* in Maine, where 3,600-pound-capacity butter churns produce some truly delicious butter. (I know it's delicious because I actually have some in my fridge now.) After seeing the massive quantity of butter in this video I want nothing more than a nice short stack of pancakes slathered with the stuff—along with some Vermont maple syrup to complete the New England theme. [Mondo butterage, after the jump!]

*Factory in quotes because Kate's is actually homemade—you can see founder Dan Patry assemble the shipments in his driveway.

@ebpizza: Thanks! I was conflating the Globe and its parent company, the New York Times. Fixed!

Have never tried Kate's because we have Houlton Farms butter here in Aroostook County, Maine. Dark yellow and comes in a one-pound block. It's very similar to the butter I used to make in my "back to the land" days!

I always pick up several pounds of Kate's on the drive back home from Owl's Head every year. That and the native strawberries extend summer vacation for a few extra weeks.
